June 2015 – BeLonging – Embodied commentaries inspired by place

With works by over 140 ceramicists from The Australian Ceramics Association, BeLonging serves as a reminder of the diversity and expressive power of the ceramic art form. The exhibition gathers artists with a variety of techniques, personal styles, skill sets and voices, and unites them as leaders in the contemporary arts.

The exhibition “aims to harness clay as a repository of personal stories, as a medium to exchange ideas and explore complex interrelationships between the cultures of this country.” The resonance  between place and the tactile experience of shaping the clay is certainly a strong presence in this exhibition. While moving from piece to piece, the viewer is drawn into the stories of the pieces and the artists, meeting the personal inner worlds of each and layering these with an appreciation beyond the aesthetic.

BeLonging runs from the 27th of June to the 11th of July, 2015, at the ANU School of Art Gallery.
